Fake words do occasionally make their way into dictionaries.
Over the centuries, a few false words have appeared in dictionaries due to human error. Some words, such as phantomnation, which appeared in a Webster's edition in 1864, are the result of missing hyphens. Others are typographical mistakes. Dord was defined as density in a 1934 edition of Webster's New International Dictionary as a result of spacing confusion. To protect their copyright, some dictionary editors have purposefully included fake words, such as equivalence in The New Oxford American Dictionary.
For the Oxford English Dictionary, J.R.R. Tolkien researched the word etymologies.
J.R.R. Tolkien worked as an editor's assistant on the OED after serving in World War I. His job was to look into the etymologies of words beginning with the letter w. Tolkien also wrote multiple definitions for words like waggle, walnut, walrus, and waistcoat. Tolkien went on to work as an English professor and write The Lord of the Rings after leaving the OED. Following that, the OED has added terms coined by Tolkien himself, such as hobbit, mithril, and mathom.
The Oxford English Dictionary took nearly 50 years to complete.
The Philological Society of London proposed the first comprehensive English language dictionary in 1857, including words from the 12th century to the present. The Philological Society joined forces with Oxford University Press in 1879, and work began. The first volume of the dictionary (A to Ant) was published by Oxford University Press in 1884, and the final volume was published in 1928. The dictionary, titled A New English Dictionary on Historical Principles, contained over 400,000 words and phrases. The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is now one of the most respected and widely used dictionaries in the world.
No Religious or Communal Riots
Would you believe a small, landlocked country of 147, 181 square kilometers? Is an abode of 80 ethnic groups speaking 123 languages squeezed among its neighboring giants? Despite the fact that Hinduism is the official religion, Nepal has never experienced religious or ethnic riots. The Nepalese take pride in their country's ability to maintain peace.
birthplace of buddha
Nepal, on the other hand, is a peaceful country because it is the birthplace of Buddha. In 623 B.C., Siddhartha Guatama, also known as Lord Budhha, was born in Kapilavastu, Lumbini. Lumbini was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
Nepal's great snow deposits
The Nepalese Himalayas are the confluence of three major Asian river systems: the Ganga, the Brahmaputra, and the Yamuna. The Himalayas also has the world's third-largest ice and snow depository.
Almost no 'witch' was ever burned at the stake.
Only a few witches were ever burned at the stake in real life. Even during the well-known Salem Witch Trials, 165 people were charged, with 31 imprisoned and 19 sentenced to death. Eighteen of the 19 people who were hanged were women. The only survivor was a man who refused to admit he was a witch and was stoned to death. As a result, because it was illegal, immolation was never used as the primary method of execution. In fact, none of the accused were burned in America.
Not all witches are malicious.
It may appear obvious because many of us are familiar with witchcraft through films such as The Wizard of Oz, Harry Potter, and others. However, in real life, witchcraft has a very negative connotation, so much so that witches were sentenced to death in order to cleanse society. However, white magic practitioners have existed throughout history. Witchcraft is not the same as black magic. It is an umbrella term for both white and black magic.
The original Merriam-Webster Dictionary was $6.
Following Webster's death in 1843, George and Charles Merriam purchased the rights to revise An American Dictionary of the English Language, Corrected and Enlarged. In Springfield, Massachusetts, the two brothers printed and sold books, and their intellectual property purchase paid off. Merriams published the first revised Webster dictionary for six dollars in the fall of 1847. The book was a success, and the G. & C. Merriam Co. was renamed Merriam-Webster, Inc. in 1982. Merriam-Webster still publishes popular print and electronic dictionaries.
Noah Webster studied 26 languages in order to write his dictionary.
Although Noah Webster was not the first American to create a dictionary, his name has come to be associated with the American dictionary. Webster wrote An American Dictionary of the English Language in the hopes of contributing to the creation of a uniquely American lexicon with Americanized spelling and pronunciation of words. Webster became serious about becoming an etymology expert in order to thoroughly research word origins and sources. To write his dictionary, he learned 26 languages, including Sanskrit and Old English. It was published in 1828 and included the first definitions of "American" words like chowder and skunk.
Difficult words were included in the first English dictionaries.
We imagine dictionaries as massive tomes containing everything from antelope and apple to zeitgeist and zoo trophy, but early English dictionaries lacked simple, everyday words. English doubled its vocabulary in the 16th and 17th centuries, thanks in part to the Renaissance's classical influence, by incorporating words from other languages. To look up these new, difficult words that they hadn't heard before, people needed to consult word lists. A Table Alphabetically, compiled by a teacher named Robert Cawdrey in 1604, defined difficult English words borrowed from Latin, Greek, French, and Hebrew. Other Englishmen published lists of difficult words with simple definitions throughout the 17th century, and people turn
Adding a new word to a dictionary is a laborious process.
They begin by gathering citations for the word, documenting the source, and recording its contextual meaning. Then, lexicographers conduct database research, looking for evidence that people from various backgrounds used the word over time. Finally, dictionary editors look over the evidence and decide whether or not to include the new word in a future edition of the dictionary. As a result of this lengthy process, modern words like manspread, presstitute, and athleisure can now be found in several dictionaries.

In Budapest, there is a cave church.
Few visitors to Budapest are aware of the little church on the rock beneath Gellert Hill in Budapest Old Town. Despite being surrounded by so many grandiose churches, Sziklatemplom ('Rock Church') is relatively unknown. If you happen to be near the Liberty Bridge (the green metal one), you can visit this strange chapel founded in 1926 by a group of Pauline monks. The Cave Church (which is still in use) is not spectacular, but it is charming in its own right. Off the beaten path, but worth a 30-minute detour.

In Budapest, no building rises higher than 96 metres.
Budapest's architectural delight is its blend of old and new. A stroll through Budapest's downtown reveals that all of the buildings are roughly the same height. Except for two: Szent Istvan Basilica and the Hungarian Parliament, which are both 96 meters tall. One of the most fascinating facts about Budapest is that no building can be taller than 96 metres. The year the Magyars settled in the area is represented by the number 96. (896). The fact that the Szent Istvan Basilica and the Hungarian Parliament are of the same height is not by chance, but rather a symbol of Hungary's equal importance of religion and government.
