Union environment minister Prakash Javadekar backs tree felling at Aarey

Amid all the chaos around the Aarey controversy, Union Minister Prakash Javdekar backed the move of cutting down trees in Aarey for the proposed Metro Car shed. Javdekar cited the Delhi Metro as an example and stressed on the fact that development and environment can co-exist. He said that the court has ruled that the Aarey area is not a forest. Javdekar said that green cover in Delhi has increased despite 271 metro stations.
