Until recently, astronomers suggested superflares only young and active stars can produce spewing energy. But University of Colorado Boulder researchers claims older and quieter stars like our very own Sun can also produce these blasts. They also warn the possibility of Earth falling in the path of one of these superflares is pretty high. If this disaster happens, the superflare will cause widespread blackouts.
