In a first, the Rajasthan assembly passed a bill providing for the death penalty for hate crimes against couples in the name of honour and tradition. In doing so, Rajasthan has become the first state in India to have a special law to deal with a hate crime against couples, which is now a death penalty. The law also provides punishment for holding assemblies to condemn inter-caster and inter-community marriages.
