Giraffe conservation has taken a major step to protect the largest mammal from unregulated trade. The move will regulate trade in giraffes and their body parts under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). The numbers are appalling as there has been a 40% dip in the past 30 years, where many researchers are calling it a 'silent extinction.' The mammals are largely targeted for bushmeat and body parts.
