Facebook & Google defended their efforts to remove hate speech from social media sites amongst the queries from lawmakers before the US House Judiciary Committee. Social media firms use algorithms & human reviewers to remove hateful speech. The FBI said the US hate crimes jumped 17% in 2017 in Nov. Google has heavily invested in machines & people to identify & remove content that violates its policy quickly.
