Ethiopia welcomes first female president

Ethiopia has got its first female president on Thursday. Sahle-Work Zewde has been elected by the Ethiopian members of parliament. She is an experienced diplomat who is now Africa’s only female head of state. A week earlier PM Abiy Ahmed chosen a cabinet with half the posts taken up by women. She has promised to give her best to make gender equality a reality in the nation. She also pledged to encourage peace.
