The Australian government has declared the rodent species 'Bramble Cay Melomys' extinct. This is the first species to be extinct owing to the man-made climate change. This official declaration was long due as the brown rat was nowhere to be seen in a survey in 2014. The animal's only known habitat was a small sandy island. The rat was last seen by fisherman almost a decade ago with no officially recorded sightings since.
