The paramilitary force 'Assam Rifles' conducts counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast and guards the India-Myanmar border. The centre has granted them the power to search without a warrant & arrest anyone in the five border areas of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram 3 days ago. Fearing a backlash, Centre has put on hold its decision. "Technical anomaly" is also one of the reasons behind such a move.
