Huge crowds scrambled up Australia's Uluru on the last day before the climb is banned. The giant monolith, known as Ayers Rock, will be permanently closed down from October 26. Uluru is believed to be sacred to its indigenous custodians, the Anangu people, who have long urged tourists not to climb. Photos of tourists snaking up Uluru in past few weeks have even drawn comparisons to recent scenarios on Mount Everest.
