A major accident was prevented when Captain Rustom Palia, pilot of Air India flight AI-101 between New Delhi and New York managed to safely land the Boeing 777-300 plane with a single source radio altimeter after all three Instrument Landing System (ILS) receivers on board failed. Beside the electronic malfunction, Palia also faced adverse weather conditions and lack of fuel but saved the lives of 370 passengers.
