Using cheat devices: NGT slaps 500-crore fine on Volkswagen

Thursday, The National Green Tribunal has slapped Volkswagen with an Rs 500-crore fine for intentionally programming its diesel engines with cheat devices. According to the report, Volkswagen released 48.678 tonnes of Nox in 2016. The 4-member expert panel of NGT has said that the German automobile giant needs to pay at least Rs 171.34 crore as a conservative fine for the damage to health that it had caused.
