Researchers warned thousands of lakes in Himalayas are in danger of huge flooding due to global warming. A simulation found the lake's levees may soon burst, as the melting ice is slowly breaking the barriers. Approximately 5,000 lakes in the Asian mountain range are currently unstable because of the levee weakness, which could result in ‘glacier lake outburst floods’. The lakes will then cause downstream flooding.
