Australian researchers found most diamonds are formed from recycled ancient seabeds that became buried deep beneath the Earth's crust. They recreated extreme pressures & temp found 200 km underground & showed that seawater in sediment from the bottom of the ocean reacts in the right way to produce the balance of salts found in a diamond. Gem diamonds are made of pure carbon while fibrous diamonds contain traces of minerals.
