An international research team has discovered the oldest slime mould identified till date; the fossil is about 100 million years ago and exquisitely preserved in amber from Myanmar. As fossil slime moulds are extremely rare, studying their evolutionary history is quite difficult. The discovery of slime moulds also called as myxomycetes, is very unlikely because their fruiting bodies are extremely short-lived.
