Scientists have developed software to fast process the real-time data and foretell the crime, making it easy for police to stop it before it occurs. One way is to fit an ETAS model to urban crime data with a grid map based approach that will predict 2 times as much crime as a single dedicated analyst. US researchers are also using a new approach, same as the one used in weather forecasting, to supplement ETAS.
