NASA recently shared an image of galaxy NGC 4449 experiencing a "starburst" which is a very intense period of star formation. This was likely caused by NGC 4449 interacting or merging with a smaller galaxy. NGC 4449 is located about 12.5 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici. The image shows a bright, yellow-white region of light surrounded by pale blue stars and pink regions of star birth.
