NASA on Wednesday, October 11, revealed that the sample collected from the 4.5-billion-year-old asteroid Bennu contains abundant water and high-carbon content. The preliminary analysis of the sample material brought to Earth by NASA’s OSIRIS-REx mission shows that the asteroid contains the biggest carbon-rich sample ever delivered. The finding offers yet more evidence for the theory that the foundations for life on Earth were seeded from outer space.
