It has long been speculated that the moon is made of complete 'dead' rock, but new evidence suggests something else. However, data from NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has now spotted ridges with freshly exposed bedrock on the surface which can only happen due to an active tectonic system. More than 500 patches of exposed rock were identified on the nearside of the moon that formed during 14 days of darkness.
