According to a new study, the Moon had its own shield against the Sun & it might have been stronger than Earth's, but it disappeared a billion years ago. Scientists believe the moon was closer to the earth 4 bn years ago, the earth helped moon maintain its magnetic field at that time. As the moon moved away, the lunar core started to crystallise about 2.5 bn years ago & once it was completely hardened, the shield vanished.
