Major Indian rivers unsafe, contaminated with heavy metals: Report

Central Water Commission's report shows that Indian rivers are contaminated with heavy metals & can cause severe health risks for consumers. The most common heavy metal found was iron followed by lead, nickel, chromium, cadmium & copper. Presence of arsenic & zinc were found to be within limits. Water generally contains a few metals that help in the body's nutrition but the levels found in CWC study were higher than safe limits.
