Iranians turn to alcohol to prevent COVID-19, trusting fake news, booze kills 27

Nearly 27 people have died from methanol poisoning in Iran after rumours that drinking alcohol can cure coronavirus infection. 20 people died in Khuzestan and 7 in northern region of Alborz after drinking bootleg alcohol. Drinking alcohol is banned in Iran for everyone except for some non-Muslim religious minorities. Methanol if taken in large quantities, can cause blindness, liver damage and death.
