Scientists have discovered evidence of a massive star explosion that occurred only a billion years after the Big Bang. The researchers used sophisticated sensors on the Giant Magellan Telescope in the Atacama Desert, Chile, to examine the star's chemical makeup based on the wavelengths of light it produces in their new study. Hypernovas may have been a major process of star creation in the early cosmos, based on this fact.
