To deal with the rising cases of the excessive cloning and stealing of mobile phones across the homeland, the Telecom Ministry has announced that it is set to roll out a Central Equipment Identity Register, a database of IMEIs. The IMEI is a 15-digit number that uniquely identifies each mobile device. Once the IMEI number is blacklisted, it will block the mobile device from accessing any cellular network in the future.
