The government has not been happy with social media giants because of their lower compliance to takedown notices. Now, under the amendments to the IT Rules, the government is looking to dilute their safe harbour immunity and put more emphasis on accountability. According to the TOI report, the government is looking to bring amendments to the law that will address accountability concerns.
