Jeff Dean, the executive who leads Alphabet Incorporation's Google's artificial intelligence department, apologised for the firing of Timnit Gebru, a prominent Black woman employee. "I understand we could have and should have handled the situation with more sensitivity," Dean wrote in an email to the staff while accepting that the firm's behaviour towards Gebru hurt some female and Black employees.
