First-ever pictures of sun’s elusive poles coming soon

A European mission kick-started to capture the closest-ever pictures of Sun’ uncharted poles for the first time. The craft Solar Orbiter is part of a group of missions and telescopes for a new era of solar research. On February 9, the US$550-million spacecraft was launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida. Equipped with 10 instruments, it will first journey to Mercury’s orbit in the first stage that can last 10 years.
