First underwater metro will be launched in Kolkata under the Indian Railways. India is building its first underground tunnel under the water. There will be two tunnels- up and down line about 1.4 km long having the width of the 520 mt. The tunnel passes through the bottom of the river. This will cover Howrah and Sealdah Railway Station. It will be functional by 2021. The total budget allocated for this is 8,572 Cr.
