Study of chemical elements on Mars can help scientists work backwards to track the history of the planet if it once had the conditions that supported life. Now, orbiters and rovers at Mars have revealed that the planet once sustained liquid water, courtesy the clues including dry riverbeds, ancient shorelines, and salty surface. Using NASA's Curiosity Rover, scientists now have evidence for long-lived lakes.
