ABC, SBS want Google, Facebook to directly pay for using their content

After Facebook rejecting a call from the Australian government to pay media companies for using their content, public broadcasters ABC and SBS have sought direct payments from Google and Facebook for using their content under the upcoming mandatory code of conduct for online platforms. Reportedly, the move by the public broadcasters may upset commercial media companies, which argue the two public broadcasters shouldn't be compensated.
