A rising batch of young talents will give Steve Smith a stiff completion in the race for Australia’s next captain, believes current skipper Tim Paine. Smith had captained the side before Paine took over but was handed a 2-year leadership ban for the ball-tampering scandal during the Cape Town Test in 2018. The ban ended this week and it renewed speculation about Smith taking up his leadership duties yet again.
