Thousands missing in Sri Lanka civil war announced dead

Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has admitted for the first time more than 20,000 people disappeared during the country's civil war are dead. The issuing of death certificates for those missing will start soon. The Sri Lankan army had defeated Tamil Tiger rebels in May 2009 after a 26-year long bloody conflict. The fighting took the life of an estimated 100,000 people and 20,000, mostly Tamils, went missing.
