Sri Lanka on Wednesday declared a state of emergency hours after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country amid widespread public revolt against his government for mishandling the economy. His brother, former finance minister Basil Rajapaksa, has also left the crisis-hit country, according to reports. A spokesperson in the prime minister’s office said a curfew has been imposed in the western province.
