RTI: Electoral bonds worth over Rs 5,800 crore bought to fund political parties

An RTI reply told that electoral bonds worth Rs 5800 crore was purchased to fund political parties in over 14 months. The RTI was filed by Chandrashekhar Goud, a Neemuch-based activist. As per Union govt's Electoral Bond Scheme 2018, only 29 SBI branches were authorised to issue & encash these bonds in 10 phases. Electoral bonds worth Rs 1407.09 crore were bought by anonymous donors in the first 7 phases.
