MLA Azam Khan disqualified from assembly membership after getting three years jail term

Samajwadi Party leader and Rampur MLA Azam Khan has been disqualified from the membership of the UP Legislative Assembly, informed the Office of UP Assembly Speaker. He has been sentenced to three years in prison in a 2019 hate speech case by Rampur District court. As per the 2013 Supreme Court judgment if an MLA, MLC or MP is convicted in a criminal case then he/she loses membership of the house with immediate effect.
