The government said in a statement that a man suspected of attempting to knife Mali's temporary President Assimi Goita last week died in hospital while in the custody of security personnel. Goita, a special forces colonel who masterminded two coups in the previous year, escaped with his life. "His health deteriorated during the investigations," according to the statement. The reason for death is the subject of an inquiry.
