Shigeru Ishiba, the former defence minister of Japan is reportedly the most popular choice among the country's public for the role of the next Prime Minister after Shinzo Abe's resignation due to ill-health. According to a survey by a key news channel, Ishiba has the support of more than 34% of Japan's public. The second in the race for next PM is Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga who has the support of just 14% people.
