Iraq’s former head of intelligence Al-Kadhimi has been sworn in as the new prime minister by lawmakers following weeks of tense political negotiations as Iraq stares at a huge economic crisis due to the plummeting oil prices and the COVID-19 pandemic. He was officially inaugurated as Iraq’s sixth premier since 2003 which put an end to a five-month leadership void that tormented Iraq’s fragmented political blocs.
