Even after the demonetisation of high-value currency notes in Nov 2016, the circulation of fake notes continued. According to the data by NCRB, Indian authorities have seized fake currency notes worth Rs 28.1 crore in 2017 while they seized Rs 15.9 crore of fake notes in 2016. Modi govt's main objective of demonetisation was to curb the spread of fake notes. However, the statistics point to a completely contrary scenario.
