Satish Dhawan (25 September 1920 – 3 January 2002) was a mathematician and aerospace engineer from India who is widely regarded as the father of experimental fluid dynamics research in India. Dhawan was born in Srinagar and educated in India before moving to the United States. Dhawan was a world-renowned turbulence and boundary layer researcher who oversaw the successful and indigenous development of India's space programme. In 1972, he took over as the third chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), succeeding M. G. K. Menon.
