Chaplin married Mildred Harris, a popular child actress, on October 23, 1918, at the age of 29. They had one son, Norman Spencer Chaplin, who died three days after his birth on July 7, 1919. By late 1919, Chaplin had split from Harris and returned to the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
