On 14th October, 2020, a rare copy of William Shakespeare's First Folio sold for a record $9.98 million at an auction in New York. The book was the first collected version of Shakespeare's plays, released seven years after the poet's death in 1623. It is widely considered to be one of the most important compilations of English literature. Comedies, Histories, and Tragedies is a collection of 36 plays, 18 of which would otherwise have been lost to history. Shakespeare's renowned works, such as Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Twelfth Night, and The Tempest, would not exist today if the book had not been printed. John Heminge and Henry Condell, two of the poet's pals, published it.
