Guru Har Rai was born on January 16, 1630 in Kiratpur to Baba Gurditta, Guru Hargobind's oldest son. Because Ram Rai had disappointed his father, Guru Har Rai selected his younger son Harkrishan as the new Guru, and he died soon after on October 6, 1661. After Guru Hargobind's numerous wars, the years of Guru Har Rai were a time of consolidation for the Sikh community, with no significant battles throughout the Guru's lifetime.
