E. B. White, an American novelist, died in 1985 at the age of 86.

Throughout his life, White produced several poems and articles; a compilation of his writings was published in 1977. White's wife died the next year. The loss had crushed him. White died on October 1, 1985, at his home in North Brooklin, Maine. He was 86 years old and had Alzheimer's disease, according to The New York Times. White is survived by his son, Joel, as well as his stepchildren, Roger Angell and Nancy Stableford, as well as several grandkids and great-grandchildren.
