After a 1–1 tie at the end of extra time, Real Madrid triumphed 5–3 on penalties, claiming a record-extending 11th victory in the competition. Real Madrid gained the opportunity to compete in the 2016 UEFA Super Cup against the winners of the 2015–16 UEFA Europa League, Sevilla. The 2016 UEFA Champions League Final was the final match of the 2015–16 UEFA Champions League, the 61st season of UEFA's premier club football event, and the 24th season since the tournament was renamed from the European Champion Clubs' Cup to the UEFA Champions League. On May 28, 2016, it was held in the San Siro stadium in Milan, Italy.
