Commander Bipin Rawat was an Indian army general who was appointed as the country's first CDS on December 30, 2021. On January 1, 2020, he entered office. General Bipin Rawat, the Chief of Defense Staff, was born in Pauri, Uttarakhand. Laxman Singh Rawat, his father, served in the Indian Army and attained to the rank of Lieutenant-General. CDS Bipin Rawat was commissioned into the 5th battalion of the 11 Gorkha Rifles, the same unit as his father Laxman Singh Rawat, on December 16, 1978. He spent ten years performing counter-insurgency operations, rising through the ranks from Major to former CDS.
