Courteney Cox was born on June 15, 1964, in Birmingham, Alabama, to a prosperous Southern family. She is the daughter of Courteney and businessman Richard Lewis Cox. She became a rebellious adolescent and made life difficult for her mother and new stepfather, New York businessman Hunter Copeland. She quit university after a year to pursue a modelling career in New York after getting signed by the famed Ford Modelling Agency. She took acting school while modelling since her true passion and aim was to be an actor. In 1984, she won a little part as a young debutante named Bunny in an episode of As the World Turns. When she played opposite Jim Carrey in the surprise blockbuster Ace Ventura: Pet Detective in 1994, her fortunes shifted significantly, and a year later she was hired as Monica Geller on the phenomenally successful sitcom Friends.
