In the year 1979, Bhaskara 1, India's Earth resources and meteorology satellite was launched
India's first experimental remote sensing satellite. The images captured by the onboard TV cameras were utilised in the fields of Hydrology and Forestry. SAMIR's rich scientific data was utilised for oceanic investigations. Bhaskara-I was ISRO's first experimental remote sensing satellite. The satellite, which weighed 442 kg at launch, was launched from Russia's Volgograd Launch Station using the Intercosmos launch vehicle, C-1 Intercosmos.
