In 2018, UN proclaimed this day as World Food Safety Day
The United Nations General Assembly declared June 7 to be World Food Safety Day every year in 2018. This was implemented because the international body discovered that the burden of foodborne infections was disproportionately impacting children under the age of five and those living in low-income countries. Food safety is crucial in ensuring that food remains safe at all stages of the food chain, from production to harvest, processing, storage, distribution, and finally preparation and consumption.
