On June 1, 1980, media magnate Ted Turner founded the Cable News Network—CNN—in Atlanta as the world's first 24-hour all-news network. Turner had revolutionised cable television by satellite-broadcasting Superstation TBS throughout the world, and he was confident there was a demand for an all-news network that could reach consumers via the burgeoning cable and satellite network. CNN, headquartered in Atlanta, established news bureaus all around the world. CNN expanded its worldwide reach through subsidiary channels and the rivals it inspired, altering the broadcast business and the way people acquire news and information.
